What’s on the table today?: Packers vs Texans Preseason Betting Preview:
Oh baby here we go!! For the first time in REAL, LIVE, game action Packers fans will get to see Jordan Love take the field. The second year QB is (in my opinion) under a fairly high degree of pressure in his first game as the Aaron Rodgers saga uncovered the very skeptical feeling’s about Love’s ability to take over for Rodgers would he not have come back.
For the Houston Texans Saturday night will be the first time that new head coach David Cully will actually be in charge of an NFL team. Cully has a long resume as an assistant, but coaching the Houston Texans as the head man will be his first go-round at the NFL level. The Texans will also be without DeShaun Watson who is still in the process of figuring out what the heck this season is going to look like for him in Houston, or another city. That of course assuming Watson’s legal troubles don’t force the league to place him on the “Commissioner’s Exempt” list.
The Packers opened up as a (-3) favorite and that’s where the number stands as of this writing, while the Total opened up at 33.5 but has now moved up to 36. You can take the Packers (-3) or the Texans (+3) at the same (-110) vig in most places from what I’m seeing.
While I do think that Saturday’s first preseason game will put a lot of pressure on Jordan Love, I don’t see any way the Packers don’t win this game, and win it by more than 3, which is why I’d recommend taking Green Bay (-3).
However, the total, 36, feels a little rich for me considering we have NO idea what Love will look like, or, what ANY of the unknown Texans quarterbacks will do. How these two teams will combine for more than 36 seems dubious, so I’d stay away from that bet, or take the UNDER.
No matter what happens, the NFL season is nearly here, which means we get to start making our favorite plays, NFL plays, on the reg! Stoked doesn’t describe how happy that makes me.
Go Pack Go – and take them (-3).
