GREEN BAY, Wis. — It was the first time getting to the state championship in school history.
The title, however, was not in the cards, as the fourth-ranked Aquinas High School volleyball team was swept by top-ranked Howards Grove 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-15) for the WIAA Division 3 state championship Saturday at the Resch Center.
Senior Lexi Donarski led the Blugolds (31-3) with 14 kills, hitting .196.
The rest of the team, however, finished with just 12 kills and a 0.00 hitting percentage.
Part of that was the defensive play from the Tigers (43-4), who had four players finish with between 12 and 19 digs. They also hit .246, as a team.
