SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — After breaking a course record in winning a state championship, Onalaska High School’s Kora Malecek is headed to the Nike Cross Nationals.
Sunday, at the Heartland Regional, the junior finished the 5,000-meter race sixth overall in 17 minutes, 30.7 seconds.
That was good enough to nab the final qualifying spot for the Dec. 7 national meet in Portland, Ore.
The race included runners from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Malecek is a three-time state qualifier in cross country. She broke the Ridges Golf Course record, winning the WIAA Division 1 race in 17:44.6, last weekend.
