UW-L duo becomes first in NCAA DIII history to sweep 100, 200 at National Championship
It may seem obvious, but stands to be recognized, that UW-La Crosse sprinters Lauren Jarrett and Sam Blaskowski did something no athlete in Division III history has ever done.
At last weekend’s National Championships, the duo became the first to sweep both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
On top of that, they were both part of 400 relay teams that also won titles, which has only happened four times in DIII history.
So, it’s also safe to say they’re the only duo to win the 100, 200 and be part of a relay team all winning National Titles.
If that wasn’t enough, the two will be back in La Crosse next season. Jarrett is a sophomore from La Crosse — she’s a Logan High School graduate — while Blaskowski is a junior from Oshkosh.
These were Jarrett’s first-ever NCAA outdoor titles, after taking second in both events last season.
For Blaskowski, however, this is almost the norm now. He has the three-pete in the 100 and has now gone back-to-back in the 200.
Blaskowski, earlier this season, set the “wind legal time” of 10.2 seconds in the 100, which surpassed the Olympic Trials standard. Blaskowski’s time currently sits 14th with the top 36 times that hit the minimum standard making the Olympic Trials.
