What’s on the table today?: NFL Week 2 lines + odds and my early picks

Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season is in the books, and boy-oh-boy did we ever have a wild start to the season. The Packers get humiliated by the Saints, the Eagles, Bengals and Texans all got nice wins to start the season, and on Monday Night Football in Las Vegas Derek Carr led the Raiders back from down 2 scores to beat the Ravens 33-27 in OT.

Wow…!

Week 2 starts off this Thursday with the Washington Football Team, now with Taylor Heinicke under center after Ryan Fitzpatrick was placed on the IR Monday after suffering a right hip subluxation, but that shouldn’t change much for the WFT on the betting angle, and so far it hasn’t with the game opening up WAS (-3.5) and is now sitting at WAS (-3). While Fitzpatrick was surely the “safer” option at QB, Heinicke has been more than serviceable for Washington in three games dating to last season, including one start in a playoff loss to Tampa Bay. Heinicke completed 62.8% of his passes for 565 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He has a 50.1 Total QBR in those seven quarters.

Looking ahead to the full slate of games in Week 2 you’ll see below all of the Vegas odds thanks to VSIN.com as well as some EARLY thoughts from me on which games appear to be the “best bets”. As the week progresses however, I’ll continue to adjust my thoughts as new information comes out, money movement shuffles the lines, and injuries are reported so be sure to check back on this space daily for updates.

    • *Thursday* NYG @ WFT (-3) total 41
    • NO (-3.5) @ CAR total 44 ½
  • HOU @ CLE (-12.5) total 48

The Browns, ummm, not yet ready to call them contenders especially after they couldn’t close the door on KC in the opener. Too many points for the Browns here take HOU (+12.5)

  • CIN @ CHI (-3) total 45

The Bengals won in Week 1 vs a Vikings team that was “supposed” to have a better defense, I’m really liking CIN (+3)

    • LVR @ PIT (-6) total 47 ½
    • BUFF (-3) @ MIA total 47 ½
    • LAR (-4) @ IND total 47 ½
    • SF (-3.5) @ PHI total 50
    • DEN (-6) @ JAC total 45 ½
    • NE (-5) @ NYJ total 43
  • MN @ ARZ (-4) total 51

I love this Arizona team, and after the Vikings loss to the Bengals on the road, I’m even lower on this Vikings team. I like AZ (-4)

  • ATL @ TB (-13) total 52
  • TEN @ SEA (-5.5) total 54
  • DAL @ LAC (-3) total 55
  • KC (-3) @ BAL total 55 ½

  • *Monday* DET @ GB (-10.5) total 48

Way too many points to give the Packers after what we saw on Sunday. Take the Lions (+10.5)
