Viterbo wins second match at NAIA tourney
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Maya Roberts had 20 kills in leading the Viterbo University volleyball team to another NAIA tournament win.
The V-Hawks are now 2-0 in their four-team pool, looking for one more win Thursday to move on as an upper seed in the 16-team championship bracket.
Wednesday, Abbey Johnson had 35 assists, while Katie Frohmader and Miah Garant had 14 and 12 kills, respectively, as sixth-ranked Viterbo beat No. 21 Embry-Riddle in 3-1 (25-19, 27-25, 18-25, 25-19) at the Tyson Events Center. Also, Rekha Drevlow finished with a career-high nine block assists for the V-Hawks
At 4 p.m. Friday, the V-Hawks (33-5) wrap up pool play against 11th-ranked Marian (33-2).
Viterbo entered the NAIA tournament having made the Final Four in four of the past five seasons, though most of last season’s victories had to be forfeited because of an ineligible player.
