Packers headed to Winnipeg to play Raiders in preseason but Rodgers itching to play overseas
The Oakland Raiders will take on the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
It will be a Raiders home preseason game and takes place Aug. 22.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he looks forward to leaving the country to play but hopes for another road trip overseas.
“I’m excited to get up there,” Rodgers said. “It’s fun to travel with the squad to a different country. We still haven’t been to England yet, but hopefully this doesn’t count as our out-of-the-country trip, ’cause I think a lot of us would still like to go to England.
“The popularity of the NFL is worldwide. I was in Paris this offseason and went to a Packers bar, so that just kinda shows you the reach of the NFL. I’m sure there’s a bunch of Packer fans (in Canada), ’cause they’re everywhere.”
The Packers are the only team that has not played or is not scheduled to play in London, as part of the NFL’s International Series.
The game in Winnipeg will be played at 33,000-seat IG Field, which is home to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Saturday
Prices range from $75 to $340 Canadian or about $56-$255 in U.S. currency.
