Central boys basketball accepts invite to prestigious Florida tourney
Central High School’s boys basketball team is taking its talents to south beach this winter.
Well, close enough.
The Red Raiders have accepted an invitation to play in the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
“They had over 80 kids who had been drafted in the first round of the NBA draft that have played in that tournament the last 11-12 years,” Central coach Todd Fergot said.
The tournament runs Dec. 17-22. Central will play in two games.
“The kids are going to have to work hard to raise the money for it but I think that’s another positive that we can take from this experience,” Fergot said.
Fergot thanked the coaches of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin Rapids, and Hudson for helping them work out scheduling conflicts
Fergot says it wouldn’t have happened, if not for the assistance of several other high schools.
One of the difficulties for us, with our schedule was already full, against Hudson and against Wisconsin Rapids, there were dates that were open that matched up with Sun Prairie. So, Sun Prairie was able to, kind of, take those games from us.”
