The biggest basketball game of the year in the Mississippi Valley Conference takes place tonight.

The conference title is on the line at 7:15 p.m. tonight as Onalaska High School’s boys basketball team heads to Central.

Beginning with pregame at 6:50 p.m., you can watch the livestream here or listen on WKTY 96.7 FM / 580 AM.

The No. 4-ranked Red Raiders (18-2, 9-1) lost 81-69 to the Hilltoppers (18-2, 10-1) on Jan. 19. The conference would have been all but decided, except Tomah snapped No. 3-ranked Onalaska’s 17-game win streak Tuesday with a 54-50 win, opening the door for Central.

Central coach Todd Fergot says there were mistakes made in the first contest that can’t be duplicated.

“We’ve got to do a better job taking care of the ball, executing on both ends of the floor,” Fergot said.

Then again, Onalaska did make 12 3-pointersĀ ā€” six by Noah Skifton, who finished with a career-high 35 points.

Last Friday, Central blitzed crosstown rival Logan from the opening tap, getting out to an 18-2 lead. It’s something Onalaska coach Craig Kowal is aware of.

“If we come out and struggle against their pressure, it could be a long night,” Kowal said.

With three teammates that currently hold Division I offers, it’s hard for Central junior point guard David Hayden to get attention. But scoring 12 and 17 points the last two games has turned heads.

Those in the Central locker room, including Fergot, aren’t surprised.

David’s done a great job for us,” Fergot said. “He’s one of our top defenders.

“With the ability of some other players, he gets overshadowed.”
