It looks like the Green Bay Packers will hire a defensive coordinator whose last coaching job was leading the Cleveland Browns two seasons ago.

Mike Pettine is expected to be hired by the Packers, according to ESPN. He was 10-22 with the Browns, which, by recent standards, is fairly good for Cleveland. His 7-9 record in 2014 was the most wins there since 2008.

The 51-year-old has had strong defenses when he was the coordinator with the New York Jets (2009-12) and Buffalo Bills (2013). In New York, his defense ranked first, third, fifth and eighth, respectively. In Buffalo, it was ranked 10th.

On Jan. 1, Dom Capers was fired by Green Bay after a 7-9 season and a 22nd-ranked defense. His defensives finished in the bottom third of the NFL four out of the past seven seasons. Capers had one Top 10 defense with the Packers — the Super Bowl year in 2010.

The Packers coordinator jobs are now both run by former head coaches, as former Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is the offensive coordinator to replace Edgar Bennett.
