Two Top 10 finishes during NCAA DIII championship opener, as UW-L looks for title
The NCAA Division III track and field National Championships got underway Thursday from Myrtle Beach, and the UW-La Crosse men’s team is looking to win the title.
The Eagles took second last year and have a DIII record 15 outdoor titles overall.
Thursday’s preliminaries didn’t garner much in terms of final results, where UW-L currently sits 20th.
But, the 400-meter relay team qualified for finals — an event the Eagles won last season and set a DIII record time already this season.
On that team is Sam Blaskowski, who also qualified in the 200 finals, where finished second last season.
Blaskowski will run the 100 prelims Friday, looking to three-pete in the event.
Four of UW-L’s five steeplechase runners also qualified for finals, as did the 1,600 relay.
Earning All-American honors with finals for UW-L on Thursday were Isaac Wegner with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000, while Andrew Tumminaro was eighth in pole vault.
