NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Two wins away from the final four of the NCAA Division III playoffs, the 13th-ranked UW-La Crosse women’s soccer team fell Saturday, 2-1, to unranked Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.

The defeat snaps both 18-game unbeaten streak and a school-record tying 14-game win streak for the Eagles (21-2-1), who did set a school record for wins.

UW-L came out of the halftime break down 2-0 to the Marlins (18-2-2) but got on the board at the 59:14 mark.

Claire Carter scored off teammate Maggie Hernandez’s shot, which was deflected by the Virginia goalie.

While the Eagles opened the first 10 minutes of the game with five shots on goal, they went on a similar fury in the final 10 minutes with another three shots to try and tie the game.

UW-L, which is now 8-4 in the NCAA DIII playoffs, outshot the Marlins 18-9 on goal.
