It was the first day of competition in Myrtle Beach, as the Eagles look for back-to-back National Titles. They’re currently tied seventh overall after Day 1 of 3.

Evans hit 19 feet, 4¼ inches to take second in the long jump — her first All-American honors. She came into the meet seeded eighth.

Meanwhile, Logan High graduate, Jarrett, finished the 200-meter dash in 23.82 seconds to break her own school record — set last week — by .15.

That was also the fastest qualifying time among the runners, as Jarrett finished in second in the 100 and 200 last season. She runs the 100 prelims Friday.

Meanwhile, the UW-L 400 relay had the fastest qualifying time. Jarrett is also on that team.

Repeating as National Champions might be difficult for UW-L, as the 1,600 relay and two steeplechase athletes failed to make finals, while three other athletes didn’t get any points in event finals.

But winning multiple events in a meet this size could make a title possible.
