Helterbrand, Bohman lead UW-La Crosse in blow out of DII Northern Michigan
A week after losing to the No. 5 team in Division III, the 15th-ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team took down Division II Northern Michigan on the road 34-3.
Keyser Helterbrand threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in leading the Eagles (2-1), who were up 14-0 after the first quarter and 24-0 at halftime.
Helterbrand was 19-for-23 for 217 yards with one interception and the two scores for UW-L, which lost 28-21 to No. 5 Hardin-Simmons last week.
Both touchdown passes went to running back Brant Bohman, who led UW-L in rushing (13 carries, 69 yards) and receiving (six catches, 90 yards).
Conference play now begins. There are four UW schools ranked in the Top 25, but the Eagles won’t see any of them to start. They host UW-Stout to start, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
