A Minnesota win Saturday would tie all-time record with Badgers in series dating back to 1890
It looks like the Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry for Paul Bunyan’s axe will happen.
The rivalry between the two college football teams dates back to 1890 but was initially called off this season due to COVID-19 protocols.
It’s set to continue on at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Big Ten Network, setting up the 130th meeting between the two teams.
If Minnesota wins, the series will be tied at 61-61-8.
The teams have played every year since 1907, making this the longest-running uninterrupted series in FBS history.
Minnesota has won back-to-back games after starting the season 1-3. The Gophers won 24-17 at Nebraska last weekend despite reportedly being without more than 30 players.
Wisconsin started the season 2-0 but those games were played three weeks apart, because two other games were called off due to COVID.
Since, the Badgers have lost three consecutive game, scoring no more than 7 points in each.
Last season the Gophers went 11-2 and tied Wisconsin on top of the Big Ten West Division standings. The Badgers, however, won the tiebreaker, and a trip to the Big Ten title game because of their 38-17 win in Minneapolis in the regular-season finale.
