UW-La Crosse announces football coach finalists
A national search for the next coach of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team has reached the final stage in less than two months.
Interim head coach Matt Janus and John Carroll University (Ohio) defensive coordinator Joe Schaefer will each have an open forum on campus this week.
Janus’ forum will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in room 860 of Graff Hall. Schaefer’s will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Graff Hall.
Janus was named interim coach in December, after former coach Mike Schmidt left for Northern State.
Janus led the defense for the past three seasons, in which time the Eagles finished in the top half of the WIAC in three, six, then eight categories, respectively.
Schaefer led John Carroll’s defense to success the past two seasons. Last season, it was 14th in sacks and eighth in total defense.
He also had experience with Iowa State and Maryland.
