Lewandowski, Spieker lead UW-La Crosse to blowout win over UW-Stout
Evan Lewandowski had 360 yards and four touchdowns through the air in leading the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team to a 40-22 win over UW-Stout.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Eagles (3-2, 1-1), who won their first two games of the season in overtime.
Lewandowski bounced back from last week’s six interceptions and 42.5-percent passing by going 26-for-40 with no interceptions in the win at Veterans Memorial Field.
Cole Spieker finished with 14 receptions, 183 yards and three touchdown receptions, while teammate Jake Simuncak had 103 yards on seven catches for UW-L, which was up 20-0 at halftime and 27-0 before UW-S (1-4, 0-2) finally got on the board.
Joey Stutzman had 88 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries for the Eagles, who outgained the Blue Devils 472-374.
UW-S did throw for more yards (381-360) but finished the game with negative-7 yards rushing on 24 carries thanks to quarterback Sean Borgerding’s negative-26 yards rushing. The Eagles sacked him eight times — twice each by Ryan Flathers and Anthony Schumann.
