
UW-L’s Witte first-ever to steal 100, as 8th-ranked Eagles take on No. 1 UW-Whitewater this weekend
UW-La Crosse outfielder Nate Witte made history this week, as the eighth-ranked Eagles saw their 16-game win streak snapped heading into a weekend matchup with No. 1 UW-Whitewater.
Witte stole his 99th and 100th base, becoming the first player in the WIAC to ever do hit triple digits.
The win streak for the Eagles (18-3) ended with a 3-2 loss in the second game of a twinbill with UW-Platteville (8-10).
Now, the Eagles head to top-ranked UW-Whitewater for a pair of doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday.
The Warhawks also come in seeing their 18-game win streak just snapped. They lost their last game 6-3 to UW-Oshkosh.
First pitch Saturday from Whitewater is set for 1 p.m. On Sunday, things gets started at noon.
As for Witte, he already has 13 stolen bases this year. He played for UW-Eau Claire his first three seasons and had 63 stolen bases, including a career-high 29 in 2022.
