UW-La Crosse drops nine spots in DIII rankings, after upset loss to UW-Platteville
The UW-La Crosse football team has dropped nine spots in the D3 football polls to No. 12 in the country.
That, after the Eagles were upset 30-27 to then-No. 24 UW-Platteville in overtime in front of 4,662 fans at Veterans Memorial Field in La Crosse.
The Pioneers (4-0, 1-0 WIAC) are now ranked right above the Eagles (2-2, 0-1) at No. 11.
Platteville scored a pair of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter — both 85-yard drives — including with 1:18 remaining on a 40-yard score.
In overtime, the Eagles managed a field goal to open the scoring, but UW-P scored on a 25-yard pass to end the game.
The Pioneers were a team that was ranked just out of the Top 25 two weeks ago, and cracked it last week.
So, while Division I college football saw its Top 4-ranked teams all lose, UW-Platteville could just be one of those teams off the radar early and starting to get appropriately ranked.
UW-L was also coming off a bye, after a losing in Week 3 to DII’s second-ranked team, Grand Valley State, 20-13.
