West Salem, Aquinas earn 3 seeds in upcoming state tournament

Two area teams will battle for a gold ball at next week’s WIAA boys basketball state tournament in Madison.
The West Salem Panthers (25-3) clinched a sectional championship Saturday by beating River Falls 66-58. West Salem will be the 3 seed and will face 2nd seed and three time defending champions Pewaukee on Friday at approximately 3:15. West Salem is in the state tournament for the 3rd straight season. They’ve lost in the D3 championship game the last two years.
The Aquinas Bluegolds (23-5) are in the state tournament for the first time since 2016. They defeated Cameron in a D4 sectional final yesterday 62-46. Aquinas will face the 2 seed, Mineral Point on Thursday at approximately 8:15. The Bluegolds last state title was in 2013.
