La Crosse native Jordan Davis had eight points, six rebounds, as the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team upset No. 13 Maryland at the Kohl Center on Tuesday.
Davis, who started but played just 23 minutes, was 3-for-5 from the field, 1 of 3 from beyond the arc and added a steal for Wisconsin (7-2, 1-0), which handed the Terrapins (8-1, 1-1) their first loss of the season.
A 13-point run gave the Badgers a 58-45 lead with 3:46 remaining and they were able to hang on after that, despite making just 15 of 25 free throws in the second half and no field goals over the final 4:03.
Charlie Hepburn’s 13 points led Wisconsin, which was up 31-29 at half.
The Badgers shot 42.6% (20-for-47) from the field and held Maryland to 38.2% shooting (21-55). The Terrapins did hit 10 of 24 from deep and outrebounded Wisconsin 37-30.
