What’s on the table today?: College Hoops (Early Odds to win the National Championship)
The College Basketball season tips-off on Tuesday night and I couldn’t be more excited. Tons of incredible storylines to watch this year including the final season for Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, the first season without Roy Williams in North Carolina in over a decade, and how well will Minnesota native Chet Holmgren do for the National Champion runner-up Gonzaga Bulldogs?
Wisconsin’s Badgers Men’s team is also going to be an interesting watch with La Crosse Central grad Johnny Davis now taking over as the teams’ go-to-guy, and Gregg Gard coming off a season that featured wild swings up and down, major drama, and good showing in the first round of the NCAA Tourney.
Needless to say, as a basketball fan, this is the BEST TIME OF THE YEAR, and it all starts tonight in many gyms around the country and on the national stage for the State Farm Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden featuring (No. 14 Kentucky vs. No. 8 Duke, No. 4 Kansas vs. No. 24 Michigan State). The Badgers open play versus the tiny St. Francis (Brooklyn) 7pm at the Kohl Center with no line on the game.
Below you’ll find the EARLY odds to win this years’ National Championship according to Caesars SportsBooks in Las Vegas….not surprisingly (but sadly) the Badgers aren’t mentioned.
The Zags are the favorites at 6-1 and are the only team with odds in the single digits at Caesars Sportsbooks. Michigan, Villanova and UCLA are next, each at 12-1, followed by Texas, Purdue and Kentucky, which are each 14-1.
Gonzaga joins UCLA, UNLV, North Carolina, Kentucky and Duke as the only teams to be preseason No. 1 in the Associated Press poll in consecutive years. The Zags are the first team to be preseason national championship favorites in consecutive seasons since Duke in 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
