Rodgers wants out of Green Bay

Coming off an MVP season with the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, apparently wants out.

Reports are the 37-year-old quarterback told some in the Packers organization that he doesn’t want to return to the team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s been a talking point for Packers president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst, and coach Matt LaFleur at different times this offseason, meeting with Rodgers. The Packers did offer to extend his contract, Schefter added.

After several meetings last month, Rodgers refused to restructure his contract and instead wanted an extension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rodgers has three years remaining on his contract with the Packers.

But the big issue, apparently, is Rodgers doesn’t like many in the Packers front office, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.

“Aaron’s our guy,” Gutekunst said Monday. “He’s going to be our quarterback for the foreseeable future.”

Gutekunst made another statement Thursday, reiterating the franchise’s commitment to Rodgers.

Teams are already lining up to make a trade for Rodgers, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported.

A lot of Rodgers’ unhappiness could likely be traced back to Green Bay, coming off a 13-3 season and an NFC Championship berth in 2019-20, using a first-round pick on a quarterback Jordan Love. Green Bay went 13-3 and lost in the NFC Championship again this past season.
