What will La Crosse’s Jonathan Davis role be for Badgers against Marquette?
Could be the first glimpse Friday into what La Crosse native Jonathan Davis’ role will be with the Wisconsin men’s basketball team.
The freshman guard has averaged 19.7 minutes a game in the Badgers (3-0) first three matchups, in which they won by an average of 28 points per contest.
Now, fourth-ranked Wisconsin heads on the road to what likely should be a formidable opponent in unranked Marquette (2-1), which most recently lost to Oklahoma State 70-62. The game starts at 6 p.m.
Both Wisconsin and Marquette defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Eastern Illinois — Marquette by 23.3 points per game, while Wisconsin won by an average of 17 points.
Davis is averaging the sixth-most minutes on Wisconsin, but we’ll see if that changes against Marquette.
The 6-foot-5 guard is averaging 6.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 turnovers. He’s shooting just 38.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
His brother, Jordan Davis, saw his first collegiate action in the win Tuesday over UW-Green Bay, and nailed his first-career shot — a 3-pointer. Former Central High School teammate Terrance Thompson scored on the very next possession for the Phoenix.
Wisconsin doesn’t play a ranked opponent until Christmas day at No. 8 Michigan State, though those rankings could always change by then.
After Marquette, it’s Louisville on Wednesday for the Badgers.
