Central finishes 4th in Florida tournament
At a tournament in Florida, against some of the best high school boys basketball teams in the country, facing multiple Division I scholar athletes, Central came home 1-2 over the weekend.
Johnny Davis, who averaged 26 points in the three games, hit game-winning free throws in the win, and scored 37 points in one of the Red Raiders’ two losses, at the Montverde Invitational.
Central (9-3), which is ranked No. 2 in Division 2 in Wisconsin, beat South Miami 73-72 on Thursday. Davis’ free throws with one second remaining gave his team its only lead.
In Friday’s semifinals, Davis scored 37 but Central lost 66-61 to Long Island Lutheran (New York).
In a battle for third place Saturday, the Red Raiders fell 69-46 to Scotlandville Magnet (Louisiana).
Central, which is 2-3 in its last five, after a loss to No. 1-ranked Onalaska just over a week ago, will host Holmen on Friday.
