Packers GM noncommittal about Cobb and Matthews next year; Jimmy Graham likely back
NFL free agency starts March 13.
Whether Randall Cobb or Clay Matthews is back with the Green Bay Packers is still up in the air.
Packers GM Brian Gutenkunst wouldn’t say one way or another if either would be back. That was made evidently more clear when the GM did, however, indicate tight end Jimmy Graham would likely be on the team next season.
“Jimmy had a productive year for us last year,” Gutenkunst said. “Looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this year.”
Graham signed a three-year, $30 million deal last March, making him the league’s highest-paid tight end. He had 55 receptions for 636 yards and two touchdowns during an injury-plagued season though he did still play all 16 games.
As for Cobb, Gutenkunst said Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine: “We’re still putting that puzzle together. Obviously, with draft meetings and free agency meetings, and now we’re here at the combine. As we get all the information together as we approach the next few weeks, we’ll get into that.”
Gutenkunst had similar words about Matthews.
“We’ll get to that over the next two weeks,” he said.
Cobb is sixth in franchise history with 470 catches. He is an unrestricted free agent, having wrapped up his four-year, $40 million deal, signed after a Pro Bowl season in 2014.
Matthews, the Packers’ all-time sacks leader, is also unrestricted. He had 3.5 sacks last season.
