Battle of Top 25 teams goes to UW-Oshkosh over UW-La Crosse
OSHKOSH, Wis. — A battle of Top 25 teams looking at a one seed in the upcoming conference tournament went to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh women’s basketball team in a 71-62 win over UW-La Crosse.
The 24th-ranked Eagles saw their four-game win streak snapped Wednesday and dropped to third place in the upcoming tournament.
UW-L (20-4, 9-4 WIAC) will host a first-round game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mitchell Hall. UW-Oshkosh (21-3, 11-2) clinched the top seed and, at least, a share of the regular-season title.
After leading 37-33 at halftime, the Titans went on a 20-13 third-quarter run and an 18-12 fourth to pull away.
UW-L shot 52 percent in the first half, going 5 of 10 from 3-point range. That dropped to 39 in the second, including 1 of 8 from deep.
Carly Coulthart scored 15 to lead the Eagles, while Emma Gamoke added 11.
The two teams had a combined 26 turnovers — 13 each.
