Caledonia a win away from 4 consecutive titles and 54 wins in a row
MINNEAPOLIS — Usually quarterback Noah King’s forte is through the air.
Thursday, in the game to get back to a state championship for a fourth consecutive season, the sophomore was running.
King rushed for 83 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns, as Caledonia High School’s football team blew out Paynesville Area 40-6 at U.S. Bank Stadium for its 53rd consecutive win.
The top-ranked and undefeated Warriors (12-0) are now back in the state championship, looking for a fourth consecutive title. They will play the winner of Barnesville (10-2) and second-ranked Minneapolis North (11-0), which takes place at 11:30 a.m.
The state championship will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 23, again at the Minnesota Vikings stadium.
Along with the strong rushing performance, King also threw for 138 yards and a touchdown — the opening score, an 8-yard toss to Nick McCabe late in the first quarter.
McCable also rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown, while teammate Jack Beardmore led the team with 10 carries for 121 yards and a score.
The Warriors, who outgained Paynesville 432-133, put up 20 more points in the first half.
