UW-L’s 400 relay advances to finals after first day of DIII national championships

A successful first day for the University of La Crosse’s 400-meter relay team at the NCAA Division III track and field national championships.

The squad, made up of Beth Harlos, Brittany Jaeger, Clair Shepardson and Savannah Rygiewicz, advanced to Saturday’s final with a qualifying time of 47.31 at UW-L’s Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.

This marks the fourth time UW-L has hosted the NCAA III Outdoor championships (1986, 1997, 2013, 2018).

After four events in the heptathlon, the Eagles’ Amanda Wiebke is in ninth-place with 2,637 points.

Thursday’s events included the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash. Wiebke will complete action in the heptathlon Friday, competing in the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.

In other action set for Friday for UW-L, Shepardson runs in the 100 hurdles preliminaries and Rachel Atchison in the 800 preliminaries.

Sophia Schuessler finished 14th (11-5¾ ) in the pole vault Thursday for the Eagles, while teammate Rebecca Voss placed 16th (38:14.45) in the 10,000 run.
