
Cochrane-Fountain City wins over Turtle Lake in WIAA D5 semifinal
Behind Cameron Lipinski’s 24 points, the Cochrane-Fountain City Pirates reach the WIAA Boys Division 5 State Championship with a 66-54 win over Turtle Lake on Friday morning.
Lipinski went 7 for 14 on his field goals in the game plus two three-point baskets and eight of ten on free throws.
Reed Schmidtknecht got things started for the Pirates by hitting a three just 30 seconds into the game at the Kohl Center.
Lipinski scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half which saw C-FC go out to a 36-23 lead.
Other than a tie at 5-all just over two minutes into the game, the Pirates led throughout the contest.
They did face a challenge in dealing with Turtle Lake’s Brandon Wagner. He put up 27 points for the Lakers and grabbed 14 rebounds.
He had 17 of those points in the second half.
For C-FC, Porter Ehrat had 12, with Schmidtknecht ending the game with 10 points.
Camden Davis and Brody Tarman each scored 10 points for Turtle Lake, who was making their first trip to the State Tournament.
With the win, C-FC plays the winner of the Sheboygan Lutheran and Abundant Life Christian game which was right after the Pirates game.
