Kirsten Simms scored in the shootout and goalie Ava McNaughton stopped three shots in leading the top-ranked University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team, after a 2-2 tie after overtime Sunday with No. 11 St. Cloud State.

It’s just the third time this season, the Badgers haven’t won, and comes a day after beating St. Cloud State by three goals.

Wisconsin does currently has some La Crosse roots with Katie Kotlowski playing defense and in her final season. The Badgers likely won’t fall in the rankings, being they’re 25-1-2, including 2-1-1 against second-ranked Ohio State and 2-0 against No. 3 Minnesota.

Things could get interesting, though, this coming weekend, when the Badgers are on the road at fourth-ranked Duluth (15-9-2). Wisconsin, however, is 2-0 against the Bulldogs, winning 5-1 and 7-3 in Madison against UMD back in October.

Sunday, Wisconsin scored nearly a minute into the game, but SCS tied it less than 2 minutes later.

The Badgers were back up 2-1 heading into the third period, before SCS tied things up at the 8:42 mark.
