Logan advances to semifinals after thrilling shootout over Medford
A 13-yard touchdown pass from Bradley Check to Maxim Roberts with 21 seconds remaining sent the Logan High School football to a win away from playing at Camp Randall for a Division 3 state championship.
On the road at 10-1 Medford, the Rangers found themselves down 49-43 with 2:49 in the fourth quarter, before the Check-Roberts hookup capped off a 64-yard, game-clinching drive.
That gave the Rangers a 51-48 lead and cornerback Tommy Check intercepted a pass on the ensuing possession to seal the victory.
Logan (10-2) will face fifth-ranked Green Bay Notre Dame (12-0) on Friday at a neutral site yet to be decided. The Rangers were last in the state semifinals in 2013 when they lost to Monona Grove 28-14.
In these quarterfinals, the Rangers and Raiders matched each other score for score throughout the game.
The ultimate difference came from Logan”s defense stopping four two-point conversion attempts.
Check finished with 282 rushing yards and four touchdowns, plus another 185 yards through the air and two passing touchdowns.
