Meyer scores 28 in leading Central to playoff-opening win; 9th-ranked Onalaska faces New London on WKTY
Senior Henry Meyer had 28 points and nine rebounds in leading the 10th-seeded Central High School boys basketball team to an playoff opening 91-49 win over No. 10 Sparta on Tuesday — a game featured on WKTY.
The RiverHawks will now play at 7 p.m. Friday against fourth-ranked and second-seeded Fox Valley Lutheran (22-2).
Meanwhile, No. 4 Onalaska (18-6) — which is ranked ninth in the final Division 2 poll — received a first-round bye and will host fifth-seeded New London (15-8) at 7 p.m. Friday night and will stream on WKTY.

Also getting a first-round bye is ninth-ranked and third-seeded Aquinas (19-5) in Division 4. The Blugolds will host Regis (10-15). Aquinas beat Regis in the season-opener 73-57.
It’s the third win in three tries for the RiverHawks (14-11) over the Spartans (4-21) this season. Seniors Peyton Strittmater and Noah Dingel each scored 15 for Central, which had 27 points off turnovers.
The state tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison is March 14-16.
