Central to host DeForest, Logan heads to Rice Lake in 1st round of football playoffs
The Central High School football team received a No. 4 seed in the Division 2 playoffs and will host fifth-seeded DeForest in Friday’s first round.
Meanwhile, both Logan and Holmen were awarded postseason berths, despite having sub-.500 conference records, which is usually required to make the playoffs.
Eighth-seeded Holmen will face No. 3-ranked Waunakee, the top seed, in Division 2, while — in Division 3 — the Rangers get No. 1 seed Rice Lake, which is unranked.
Sticking in that division, Onalaska got the third seed and will host No. 6 Rhinelander.
In Division 5, defending state champion Aquinas, ranked fourth in the Small Division, has the No. 1 seed and will host New Glarus/Monticello.
The other ranked area teams in the Small Division include No. 3 Cashton, who has the top seed in Division 7 and will host Blair-Taylor, and sixth-ranked Pepin/Alma, the second seed that hosts Melrose-Mindoro. Bangor, which had been ranked early in the season, is also in the same bracket with the No. 3 seed and will host Royall. Fifth-seeded Cochrane-Fountain City at No. 4 New Lisbon rounds out that region.
