Neither Burnes, Williams play in all-star game for Brewers, while Josh Hader gets hold in NL win
Two Milwaukee Brewers made the All-Star game. Neither of them played.
Starter Corbin Burnes and closer Devin Williams were on the All-Star roster in a game that their National League team won 3-2, using nine pitchers.
On top of that, former Brewers closer Josh Hader — who was traded last season, sending the team into a freefall — picked up the hold, pitching the eighth inning.
That came the half inning after Elias Díaz’s two-run home run that put the NL ahead for good.
It was the first NL win since 2012 — after nine consecutive losses. Díaz, of course, ended up the MVP.
While Williams is having an incredible season for the Brewers, Hader is doing even better.
Name | Saves | ERA | K | BB | WHIP | Record |
Hader | 21 | 1.08 | 50 | 18 | 1.02 | 4-2 |
Williams | 20 | 1.89 | 45 | 19 | 1.05 | 0-1 |
The Brewers (49-42) are a half-game back of the Cincinnati Reds for the NL Central, while Hader’s San Diego Padres (43-47) are fourth in the West, 8.5 games back of the LA Dodgers — and 5.5 games back of Milwaukee in the wildcard race. The Brewers are a half game out of the final wildcard spot.
