A career day in the NBA for La Crosse native Johnny Davis.

The rookie guard had his first-ever start and put up a career-high 16 points for the Washington Wizards in a 118-109 loss to the New York Knicks at the Garden.

Davis was 6-for-11 from the field, 2 of 6 from deep and added six rebounds, three assists and no turnovers in 30 minutes.

Davis and the Wizards get set to host the NBA-leading Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. Pregame on WKTY begins at 5:30 p.m. Tune in on 96.7 FM / 580 AM.

Davis’ minutes have been ramping up as the Wizards season comes to a close and the team wants to get their No. 10 overall pick as much experience as possible.

Davis has now scored double digits in back-to-back games, having put up 10 against the Orlando Magic on Friday. He has four double-digit games in the past two weeks, but his shooting since getting back on the Wizards from the G-League has still been suspect.

In his past 10 games, Davis is shooting 41 percent from the field (32 of 78) and 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. He was 2 of 10 from deep on Friday.
