La Crosse’s Davis scoreless, Badgers swept by Northwestern for 1st time in 27 years
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team lost to Northwestern 54-52 on Sunday, getting swept by the Wildcats for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
La Crosse native Jordan Davis played just 14 minutes and was scoreless for the third consecutive game. The junior was 0-for-2 from the field. His role has diminished significantly over the past couple of weeks.
Over the final 2 minutes, 55 seconds of this one, the two teams scored just one basket — a Chucky Hepburn jumper with 45 seconds left to put UW (13-9) up 51-50. Northwestern (16-7), however, sealed it with free throws and a Brooks Barnhizer block of Hepburn with 20 seconds to go.
Wisconsin had one more shot, after a missed 1-and-1 by Northwestern, but Hepburn missed a jumper with six seconds left.
The Badgers have now lost four of five and seven of their last nine, after starting the season 11-2.
