Defending National Champion Badgers host Pitt in elite eight Saturday, after taking down Penn St.
The defending National Champion University of Wisconsin volleyball team held off a late rally from 11th-ranked Penn State on Thursday to move onto the elite eight.
The No. 2-ranked Badgers were up 2-0 after two sets, but needed all five to get the victory, winning 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 20-25 at the UW Field House, which reached 110 decibels at match point.
It was the 21st consecutive win for Wisconsin (28-3), which is 16-0 at the Field House and 12-3 against Top 25 teams.
The Badgers had an incredible 23 blocks, while Penn State (26-8) had nine. Wisconsin’s Caroline Crawford 12 of those blocks.
Wisconsin now hosts sixth-ranked Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Field House. Pitt (30-3) beat Florida (25-6) 3-1 at the Field House on Thursday.
