Tonight at 8pm CST the #10 Wisconsin Badgers have a chance to clinch the Big 10 regular season championship with a win over #8 Purdue at the Kohl Center.
When the Badgers and Boilermakers last faced off in West Lafayette, the Badgers were carried by La Crosse super-star Johnny Davis who had a career high 37 points, collected 14 rebounds and recorded a career tying 2 blocks. For the Badgers to win again tonight, despite their recent stretch of good play, they’ll most likely need another Herculean effort from Davis who has shown the ability to take advantage of the sub-par defensive play of Purdue.
The Boilermakers rank 11th in the Big 10 in defense, allowing their opponents to shoot 42.8% from the field and 34.2% from beyond the arc, however, on offense they can be downright SCARY! When you can get the ball to Edy or kick it back to Ivey, there aren’t many teams who can match their offensive prowess. The Boilermakers average 81.6 points per game on 50.3% shooting (3rd) and 39.9% from beyond the arc (2nd) in the Big 10. Add a 10.0 rebounding margin and you have the perfect Big 10 team when it comes to size and efficiency on offense.
The big guy, Zach Edey, who I’ve said reminds me A LOT of “My Giant” Gheorghe Mureșan, never got the memo to stop growing and has conversely turned that into an average of 14.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks on 68.1% shooting in just 19 minutes per game….yikes.

MY PREDICTION
I really like the Badgers in this spot to cover the spread and win the game outright. While Purdue is definitely formidable, the Badgers enjoy a ruckus home crowd advantage, and I think Johnny Davis wants to cap his “regular season” career at Wisconsin with a Big 10 title.
That the Badgers have already beaten Purdue once this season, something that I feel normally favors the team that lost, I see favoring Wisconsin. This is a team that was picked to not be in the Top 10 nationally, but the 10 seed in Big 10. Safe to say they’ve over-exceeded expectations but that doesn’t mean they are done.
