He’s been setting college basketball ablaze of late.

A few days before La Crosse native Johnny Davis took it to Michigan in a 77-63 University of Wisconsin men’s basketball win, his old high school presented him with a long-overdue honor.

Johnny Davis was finally awarded his Mr. Basketball plaque Friday, during a ceremony before the Central-Onalaska high school boys basketball matchup.

Wisconsin coach Greg Gard and quite a few Badgers players were in the gym to see both teammates, Johnny and Jordan Davis, honored.

Along with Johnny Davis being given his plaque for being Wisconsin’s top high school player in 2020 — a ceremony that wasn’t held because of COVID-19 — Central also unveiled his Mr. Basketball banner on the gym wall, across from former teammate Kobe King’s banner.

The Davis twins led Central to a 94-13 record, three state tournaments and one state title during their time.

Johnny Davis finished the Central all-time leading scorer with 2,158 points, while Jordan Davis finished with 1,101 career points.

Both were three-time all-city, all-Mississippi Valley Conference and all-state players at Central.
