University of Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz could be out three weeks, after testing positive for covid-19.

Mertz is awaiting a PCR swab test to confirm the initial positive diagnosis, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

If that test is positive, the redshirt freshman will have to sit out practice and games for 21 days, according to Big Ten protocols.

The QB will also have comprehensive cardiac testing if the test findings hold up.

Mertz completed a school-record 17 consecutive passes and 20 of 21 attempts for 248 yards with five touchdowns in beating Illinois on Saturday.

Sophomore Chase Wolf would likely strip in at QB if Mertz is out. Senior quarterback Jack Coan is already out indefinitely after undergoing right foot surgery before the season.

Wisconsin is 1-0 on the season and is scheduled to play on the road against Nebraska on Oct. 31.
