Wisconsin Dells the happiest place on Earth regardless of pandemic

Over the weekend, I had a chance to take the family, for the first time officially, to the Wisconsin Dells for a couple of nights.

I have taken my son Jon and his friends a couple of times before, but we never stayed overnight. My wife also has never been to the Dells, and really had no idea what to expect. I told her it was going to be awesome, and it did not disappoint!

The Dells are a unique place, unlike any that I visited before. And I’ve been to a few places. The beauty of the weather, the water and the fun — all built into one little piece of heaven. Even if the global pandemic makes it seem like there’s no fun at all, don’t tell that to the Dells. They know how to have a good time.

On Saturday, as many Wisconsin residents probably heard, Noah’s Ark Waterpark, the best waterpark at the Dells, closed due to a case of COVID-19 by one of its employees. My 15-year-old son, his 15- and 16-year-old friends, who would travel the long road, of an hour and a half from La Crosse to get to the park, were sorely disappointed. I was too. This was going to be their first time going alone, staying all day and spending more of my money than usual.

Alas, the park was closed but it’s still the Dells, and there are tons of things to do. So, they hit up the go-karts, swam in the pools inside and outside, hung out on the sandy beach of Lake Delton, and enjoyed kids their own age. Even through a closure of their most anticipated attraction, they rated the trip a 9 out of 10. Don’t think you could ask anything more as a parent.

As for us adults, we too had a fantastic time. We didn’t anticipate going to a waterpark so, therefore, weren’t looking forward to one. We were, however, looking forward to the Wisconsin Dells Ducks Tour and were not disappointed. What an amazing time. I’m a big history buff and so is my wife, and the Dells Duck Tour gave us the best of history, entertainment, and some of the most breathtaking surroundings I could have ever imagined. It went so far above our expectations, we bought postcards, and tickets, and coupon books for next time!

After the amazing Dell’s Duck Tour we had an incredible lunch on Lake Delton outside on an amazingly gorgeous deck. Craft cocktails and expertly crafted food made the view seem even better — which didn’t seem possible but was. After lunch a jaunt down to the private beach where we were staying at the Caribbean Club, and there until the sun went down, we cocktailed, hung out, talked, laughed, and took great pictures. Capping off the night with some great appetizers back at the condo, the kids having fun, and taking in the view of Lake Delton it made the two days seem like it could have lasted forever.

If you’ve been thinking about a vacation, and one that’s pretty close to town, do the Dells. You can make the most of it no matter what the situation, trust me.
