Fresh off undefeated state football championship, Caledonia boys basketball ranked 3rd in first poll
The Caledonia High School boys basketball team enters the season ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the season’s first poll.
Plus, the Warriors have the top two ranked teams coming up on the schedule.
A week ago, a lot of players on the Warriors were just wrapping up an undefeated football season, in winning the state championship for the fifth consecutive time, bolstering a nation’s best 68-game winning streak.
Now, they head to the hardwood, where the boys basketball team is coming off a 23-6 season that ended in a Section 1AA semifinal playoff loss to St. Charles — two wins from the state tournament.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Caledonia opens the season at Lewiston-Altura, then plays Maranatha Christian at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in Hopkins, Minn.
Waseca (1-1) is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and will play Caledonia at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center as part of the Hoops Challenge.
Lake City (1-0) is ranked second in the opening poll and will play the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Civic Center in the HVL/TRC Shootout.
