Onalaska looking to upset top-seeded Rice Lake in playoffs
After a big, first-round win, the Onalaska High School football team will be challenged Friday.
The fourth-seeded Hilltoppers head to No. 1-seeded, unranked Rice Lake in the Division 2 playoffs.
It didn’t go well last year in the same round, when they trailed by 28 at halftime and lost 42-13.
Onalaska coach Tom Yashinsky says Rice Lake isn’t as dominant this year, but it will still be a challenge.
“They’re probably a little bit faster but not as physical in terms of blocking,” Yashinsky said. “On defense, they’re a really fundamentally sound team that doesn’t give up the big play.”
Onalaska, which beat Medford 49-14 in Round 1, is one of three teams in the Mississippi Valley Conference playing Friday. Central and Sparta will also play in the second round.
