Northwoods League celebrating 25 years, as Loggers get set to open season
The La Crosse Loggers have been in existence since 2003. And its Northwoods League isn’t much older.
This year marks a special anniversary for the league which Loggers GM Chris Goodell says has seen major changes.
“Twenty-five years ago there was five league owned teams just getting the concept going,” Goodell said. “Fast forward 25 years and the Northwoods League is the largest summer collegiate league in America. If you split our league in hafl, one half our league, one division, out draws every other league in the country.”
The Loggers open the season in Waterloo May 29. The next day, they’ll be at Copeland Park for the home-opener at 7:05 p.m. against Waterloo.
The Loggers were 31-40 last season. It’s only the second time under .500 in the last decade.
