The Milwaukee Bucks haven’t told interim coach Joe Prunty he won’t be hired full time but the rumors are swirling on who the team is interested in.

Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer is one candidate, sources told the New York Post’s Marc Berman.

The Bucks have not officially dismissed or ruled out a return of interim head coach Joe Prunty, who took over for Jason Kidd midseason.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Bucks hired a coach without firing a coach. That’s how Kidd was hired for 15-win Larry Drew.

Budenholzer worked for nearly two decades as an assistant for San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich.

In his first four years in Atlanta, Budenholzer was 190-139, leading the team to four consecutive playoff appearances. After losing players like Al Horford and Paul Millsap, however, things haven’t been as good.

Atlanta was 24-58 last season, which led to Budenholzer’s parting, though one could argue losing was by design. Maybe Budenholzer won too much?

Milwaukee isn’t the only team interested in the coach. The New York Knicks are also looking for a coach.
