Motorcycle races at Center tonight with track sprayed in Dr. Pepper syrup? Yup.
Hooligans taking over at the La Crosse Center tonight.
Actually, the Open Hooligan class is just one of the 10 classes of motorcycles racing at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Mama Tried’s Flat Out Friday event.
Hooligans are some of the bigger bikes. There are some really small motorcycles.
But they all race on the flat, smooth concrete of the Center, sprayed with Dr. Pepper’s syrup — makes it sticky for tires, says organizer, Warren Heir.
“You’ll look in there and you’ll see what we call the groove,” Heir said. “It’s just a big black ring around the track.
“The idea behind it is the syrup acts as kind of a catalyst to grab the rubber off of the tires. And the rubber creates the surface so it’s super sticky and super fun. You can really ride.”
Organizers encourage those interested to visit with racers and the motorcycles outside the Center beforehand.
WKTY’s Matt Skradie made a go of the track on Thursday. How’d he do?
