UW-L baseball moves on in NCAA regional
Boushley improves to 9-2 with win
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team took its first step in getting back to the College World Series for the third season in a row.
In the opening round of the Division III Midwest Regional, the Eagles took down 23rd-ranked St. Scholastica, 11-2.
At 4:30 p.m. Friday, unranked UW-L (29-17) will play UW-Whitewater (35-7).
The Warhawks are the top seed in the region and ranked third in the nation by D3baseball.com. The Eagles are 1-6 this season against UW-W.
In the win, UW-L senior pitcher Caleb Boushley improved to 9-2 this season, striking out seven and walking one in eight innings. He gave up just three hits – two of them solo home runs.
One of Boushley’s losses this season has come against the Warhawks.
UW-L outfielder Joel Zyhowski was 2-for-5 with three RBI from the leadoff spot in the win. He also had a stolen base. Teammates Nate Heili and Nick Pescheck were both 3-for-5 against the Saints (32-9).
The regional follows a double-elimination format. The winner advances to the NCAA Division III Championships May 26-31 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wis.
