Second year in NCAAs for Eagles, while V-Hawks have won 33 consecutive games

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team is headed back to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The NCAA announced today that the Eagles have earned one of 20 at-large bids into the tourney.

The Eagles (22-5), who finished the regular season ranked 13th in the country, will head to St. Paul on Thursday to take on St. Thomas (22-8).

There are three other matches Thursday in that St. Paul bracket and times have yet to be announced. The game will take place on the Northwestern University campus.

The Tommies were just barely out of the Top-25 rankings when the season ended.

A win and UW-L could possibly play St. Norbert (16-14) on Friday. St. Norbert plays top-seeded Northwestern (30-4), which is ranked No. 22.

Concordia (23-7), out of Mequon, Wis., is also in their eight-team bracket.

Also in the field of 64 from Wisconsin is UW-Whitewater(27-6), which beat UW-L to earn an automatic bid and is hosting its own eight-team regional, along with UW-Oshkosh (28-7), which is also in UW-W’s regional.

Meanwhile, the Viterbo volleyball team begins its postseason Tuesday in the conference tournament.

The V-Hawks finished NSAA conference unbeaten in the regular season and host Mayville State (11-25) at 6 p.m.

Viterbo is ranked third in the NAIA and hasn’t lost since August 19. Since then, all the V-hawks have done is reel off 33 consecutive wins (36-2 overall).
