In its first trip to state, the Cochrane-Fountain City High School boys basketball team will be coming home Saturday as champions.

The Pirates got 18 points from Porter Ehrat and 17 from Cameron Lipinski in beating Sheboygan Lutheran 60-54 at the Kohl Center for the Division 5 state title.

C-FC (28-2) overcame a slow start that saw Sheboygan (25-5) get out to an 11-4 lead, but that dissolved fairly quickly. The Pirates tied it 16-16 with 9:16 remaining in the first half and never trailed again.

C-FC was up seven points with 5:44 remaining in the game, before Sheboygan scored on three consecutive possessions, including back-to-back 3-pointers to pull within 55-54 at the 3:21 mark.

The Pirates, though, nailed 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Both teams shot nearly identical from the field — C-FC at 45.8% and Sheboygan at 46.5% — but the difference may have been within that stat. The Pirates shot 6-for-15 from beyond the arc (40%), while Sheboygan was just 3 of 16 (18.8%).

Lipinski hit three of those, going 3 of 6. Combined with Ehrat, the two shot 13-for-27 from the field.
